Community Involvement Task Group
Mandate
To develop a plan to foster community involvement in decision-making
about closure and reclamation standards, and to ensure that targeted end-use
and reclamation standards are acceptable to local communities.
Activities
A report was completed on Lessons Learned
on Community Involvement in the Remediation of Orphaned and Abandoned Mines -
Case Studies and Analysis, 2003 . Case studies related to community
involvement for three Canadian mine sites (Deloro-ON, Giant Mine-NT and Mount
Washington-BC), along with contaminated sites in the U.S. were produced. The "lessons
learned" from these studies were developed into a series of guidelines and published
in the pamphlet Best
Practices in Community Involvement: Planning for and Rehabilitating Abandoned
and Orphaned Mines in Canada, 2003.
